The second you mention the words iPod Nano Apple, people immediately think of music, and it’s easy to see why. The iPod has had more of an impact on the world of music than any other single device. Rather than waste any more words, let’s go ahead and take a look at how the iPod was born, and at its journey to the current day.

Many people believe that the iPod was the world’s first MP3 player, but this simply isn’t true. In fact, there were a number of companies producing MP3 players long before Apple appeared on the scene. However, all those early MP3 players were big and bulky, and of course they all relied on Flash Memory Drives.

The world of MP3 players was about to change. This happened when a former employee of Phillips and General Magic had a vision. The man I’m referring to is Tony Fadell, and his vision was to create a Hard Drive based MP3 player that would be light, slim, and super sleek. He also envisioned a system which would make it possible for users to download their music legally.

With these ideas in his mind, Tony approached a company by the name of Real Networks, which controlled the world’s largest content delivery system. Unfortunately for the company, they made a bad decision back then in 2000 when they declined to take Tony’s ideas seriously. Apple on the other hand, was quick to take Tony up on his offer, and in 2001 he was hired by Apple as an independent contractor.

The first iPod released had a 5GB hard drive supplied by Toshiba; a reliable Pixo operating system; a high-resolution display, and of course, the now famous “scroll-wheel” navigation. Despite the fact that those first iPods undoubtedly changed the MP3 market forever, they were essentially only music players with a very limited number of features. Even so, everybody wanted one, and Apple used this to their full advantage.

The way they did this, was by making sure it only worked with Mac computers. This might have been a disappointment to millions of people, but it did result in many people making the switch from Windows to Mac, and even more importantly, it fueled greater demand.

In 2002, just one year later, Apple launched their 2nd Generation iPod which had far more memory space; a touch-sensitive scroll-wheel, and unlike its predecessor, it was compatible with Windows operating systems.

The 3rd Generation iPod was launched in 2003, and then in 2004 they released the 4th Generation, along with the first iPod Mini. The following year Apple launched the first iPod Nano and also the 5th Generation iPod which was available with memory options of 20GB, 60GB or 80GB.

These days we have the iPod Nano 5, and while it might not have quite as much memory, it has plenty of other great features, including things like song tagging, a VGA video camera, and an inbuilt FM radio. There’s just no denying the fact that the iPod Nano is the best Flash Drive compact MP3 player on the market, so it comes as no surprise that Apple have never yet had reason to recall iPod Nano players.
